What is EXIF data?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in photographs by cameras and smartphones. It records technical details such as the camera make and model, lens used, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focal length, date and time the photo was taken, and often GPS coordinates showing where the photo was captured.

Why check EXIF metadata?

Photographers use EXIF data to review their camera settings and learn which combinations produce the best results. Forensic analysts rely on EXIF to verify the authenticity and origin of images. Content managers check metadata before publishing to ensure consistency and proper attribution.

Privacy concerns

EXIF data can reveal sensitive information, particularly GPS coordinates that expose the exact location where a photo was taken. Before sharing images online, it is wise to strip EXIF metadata to protect your privacy. This tool lets you remove all metadata with a single click, producing a clean image via the Canvas API.

How this tool works

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server. It uses the EXIF.js library to parse metadata tags directly from the image file, then displays them in a readable table. The strip function redraws the image onto an HTML canvas element, which naturally discards all metadata, and exports a clean copy for download.
