Volume adjustment changes the amplitude of an audio signal, measured in decibels (dB). Increasing gain by 6dB roughly doubles the perceived loudness, whilst reducing by 6dB halves it. This tool lets you apply gain changes from -20dB (much quieter) to +20dB (much louder) with a real-time preview through your speakers or headphones.
Normalisation analyses the audio waveform to find the highest peak, then applies just enough gain to bring that peak to 0dB (the maximum before digital clipping). This is useful when a recording is too quiet overall - normalisation raises the volume as high as possible without introducing distortion. It differs from compression, which reduces the dynamic range between loud and quiet sections.
Your browser's built-in audio decoder handles the preview - this typically covers MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC, and WebM audio. For export, ffmpeg.wasm processes the file entirely within your browser. No audio data leaves your device at any point.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your audio files are never uploaded to any server. All processing happens locally on your machine using the Web Audio API and ffmpeg.wasm.
